Geometric construction of the geometric mean

Drag points B and C to change lengths a and b.

Sorry, the GeoGebra Applet could not be started. Please make sure that Java 1.4.2 (or later) is installed and active in your browser (Click here to install Java now)

The geometric mean of two numbers a and b is the square root of a times b:

GM(a,b)=sqrt(a *b)

Figure out why this diagram constructs the geometric mean.
