Multiplying fractions with the scaling model
This applet demonstrates the stretching idea of multiplication in the case of fractions.
Move the points on the sliders to change the numerators and denominators of the first (N1/D1) and second (N2/D2) factors.
Questions to think about
Try writing/saying an English sentence that expresses the multiplication. For instance, "The red frog's height of 1/6 is half as big as the green frog's height of 1/3."
How is the product affected when you change just one of the four numbers? For example, when the numerator of the scale factor is doubled, the product is also doubled.
